Fire at family-run garden centre
Published: 21 December 2010
Around 35 firefighters attended a stock room fire at Homeleigh Garden Centre in Cornwall last week.
Crews dampened down and cut away debris and burned material caused by the fire, which broke out in a basement stock room shortly before 9.15am on Tuesday, December 14. No one was trapped on the premises, but there was quite a bit of damage to spare stock, including Christmas decorations.
Rob Broad, who manages the centre with his parents Derek and Enis, said: "The clean up is going fairly well - we opened up the day after the fire. Some places were cornered off and in the dark, so there's been a lot of electrical work required, but we're nearly back to normal now. We're hoping that we'll be fully back up and running by mid-January."
Homeleigh Garden Centre, near Launceston, was established in 1983 and now has more than 40 departments and a restaurant.
