Fire breaks out at Dunelm Mill store

Published: 6 October 2011
More than 80 fire fighters are battling a large fire which broke out at the Dunelm Mill store on Orchard Retail Park in Coventry in the early hours of this morning.
The building has suffered a partial collapse and the blaze has also spread to a neighbouring Dreams bed store. The first crews arrived just after 4.45am.

At around 9am, the West Midlands Fire Service said good progress was being made at preventing the fire spreading to other units on the site, with around 10 jets surrounding the premises on London Road.

Group commander Nigel Soame said: "A small fire can be prevented by having sprinkler systems, and we would encourage all business owners to think about putting sprinklers in to these industrial units. Sprinklers would have been a good way to prevent fire spreading in this incident, within the units and between units."
