Fischer celebrates 50th anniversary this year

Fifty years ago fischer fixings introduced a product which was to revolutionise the business of wall fixings. In its day the S-Plug was unique in being manufactured from high grade nylon - today it is the world's most widely produced (and copied) plug.
The company's growth over the past fifty years has been driven by fischer's concept of selling not just fixing products but fixing solutions. Every day about 14.5 million fischer plugs and anchors are used internationally - many of these are used in well-known and spectacular buildings, but many lightweight fixings are also sold through the UK DIY channel.
"Our core values are innovation, responsibility and reliability," says Klaus Fischer, company CEO.
fischer is today able to make the proud boast that it has, as a group, by far the largest number of products on the market which carry a European Technical Approval. Quality has always been an over-riding concern for fischer, and its success in gaining ETAs has made this clear.
Nowadays plastic plugs make up just a small fraction of the product range: steel anchors and chemical fixings, adhesives and complete systems are part of the range.
Innovation has driven fischer forward for the last 50 years. To name just a few innovation highlights from the last 50 years - the fischer SX was the first anchor with quadruple expansion, the fischer SXS was the world's first plastic plug with construction approval for use in cracked concrete.
Heavy duty and chemical anchors are other sectors where fischer sets the standard. The Zykon undercut anchor was another fischer innovation, which led to a quantum leap for fischer in façade fixings - the ACT system for fixing stonework, ceramic and fibre cement boards, and which was later also used for fixing glass and photovoltaic modules. The fischer Zykon glass fitting FZP-G remains the only undercut anchor with construction approval for fixing glass panes without the need to drill through the glass.
Today, the product assortment covers virtually the whole spectrum of fixings. Next to the classic plugs and anchors, fischer also supplies a fire protection system with fire stops, SaMontec for domestic service installations, elements for composite thermal insulation systems as well as adhesives, bolts and screws.
