Horticultural design and print company Floramedia is this month getting behind the Royal Horticultural Society's (RHS) Plants for Pollinators initiative.

The campaign aims to educate consumers about which plants best provide nectar and pollen for bees and many other types of pollinating insects. It also advises on the use of pesticides and explains other ways to encourage bees into gardens.

Floramedia has created a variety of POS for the cause so that retailers can back the awareness campaign and inform their customers.

Floramedia managing director Nick Mathias said: "Encouraging pollinators into our gardens is very important. Insects transfer pollen from one flower to another as they search for food. Bees, hoverflies, butterflies and moths are vital for pollination.

"We think garden centres should aim to have a designated area for plants that will provide nectar and pollen for bees and many other types of pollinating insects."

Floramedia's new Plants for Pollinators materials include A2 and A3 Correx board, a PVC bench wrap, banners and beehive Correx installations.

The Perfect for Pollinators trademark is also available for download from the RHS website in different formats for use by members of the trade and groups that want to promote the initiative.

In terms of labels, the trade must only use the trademark on labels of plants that appear in the RHS Perfect for Pollinators plant lists. However, plants that follow the principles for attract pollinating insects but are not on the lists can still be grouped together under the RHS Perfect for Pollinators POS artwork or in the display area.
