Focus DIY closures gather pace

In the last few days Focus DIY has earmarked three under-performing stores for sale or closure.
A deal was struck to close a store in Hereford today.
A date for closure has not been set. The store employs 25 people.
A store in Eastbourne, employing 25 staff, looks set to close its doors within the next few months, according to local press reports.
While almost 30 jobs could be lost after it was announced that Focus DIY in Peterborough will shut its doors by March next year.
Stores under the threat of closure or sale have suspended discount schemes, and are selling off products at reduced prices.
As part of the deal struck with its new owners, the private equity firm, Cerberus, 52 stores will continue to trade until they are either sold to other operators or closed.
Shortly after taking over the private equity firm said that following a detailed analysis of the business it would concentrate on driving growth at a core of 203 stores.
A spokesperson for the company said it anticipated that the programme will be completed in the first quarter of 2008.
