According to the BBC, Mr Chappell said talks with US-based investors "were at a mature stage."

Following BHS' fall into administration on Monday, Duff & Phelps have reportedly received 50 expressions of interest in the company, some for all of it but most for parts of it.

Mr Chappell told the BBC he was interested in buying the whole group, except 40 loss-making stores, now that the pension issue is to be take over by the Pension Protection Fund.
