Furniture retailer's new app
Published: 12 November 2013
London-based furniture retailer Made.com has launched an augmented reality app for customers to virtually try out products in their own homes.
The app uses specific A3 paper, which can be collected from its Notting Hill showroom or downloaded from its website, placed in the space where the customer wants a particular piece of furniture and an image displays how it would look in that space.
Furniture will appear to scale, so the company says there is no need for a tape measure, and colours can also be changed to suit different decor styles. Images can then also be shared with friends and family via social media.
Made.com products that can be tried out include shelves, desks, beds and armchairs. The app is currently only available on iPhone and iPad.
Other retailers have released similar apps this year, including
Swedish furniture giant Ikea and
Bathrooms.com.
