Garden buildings firm helps out with restoration project

A garden buildings supplier has stepped in to aid an ambitious project to restore a walled kitchen garden to its pre-World War 1 state.
Northamptonshire-based Scotts of Thrapston has provided a new timber garden outbuilding to Ramsey Abbey walled kitchen garden in Cambridgeshire that is in keeping with its setting. It will be used to store tools and equipment.
The structure was made after consultation with trustees of the garden, who want to make the site look and feel as it did in the early 20th century.
Three years ago a Scotts of Thrapston Burghley summerhouse was erected for volunteers and visitors to use during opening hours to shelter from the elements.
Jane Sills, one of the trustees at Ramsey Abbey walled kitchen garden, said: "When it came to the shed, we contacted Scotts of Thrapston to see whether they could provide the type of building we had in mind. Together we came up with a bespoke design with woodwork and windows to match the original summerhouse that was perfect for the prime position it would occupy in the garden.
"Our research included looking at ready-made sheds and we were delighted to learn that the Scotts design was not going to cost much more."
Family-run Scotts of Thrapston is in its 95th year of operation.
