Fulham Palace Garden Centre is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
The centre will be holding a series of events and activities over the next few months to mark this milestone, kicking off with a special day of garden-themed events on Thursday July 1 from 3pm to 9pm.
The day will include activities for children, such as sunflower growing demonstrations, face painting and a lucky dip, as well as cocktails, a barbecue and live music for the adults.
Fulham Palace Garden Centre began in March 1985 when a young person was helped by youth charity Fairbridge to set up a gardening business. It was built and run at first by volunteers, with the aim of providing work and training opportunities for young people.
However, the business was then reorganised and redeveloped in order to compete with other garden centres and generate profits directly for the charity. Over the years it has undergone a number of developments including a major refurbishment in January 2010 as part of a two-year plan.
Located near the historic Fulham Palace, the centre still donates all its profits to Fairbridge, which works with disadvantaged young people aged 13-25 to give them the motivation, self-confidence and skills to change their lives.
