A Gloucestershire garden centre is hoping to enjoy a boost to business by more than tripling the size of its café.
Fosseway Garden Centre in Moreton-in-Marsh has gained planning permission from Cotswold District Council to grow Timothy's Café's kitchen, serving and seating area from 200sq m to 674sq m.
Garden centre owner Tim Godwin told DIY Week that the bigger café would be a new build.
"It will start building in March next year to be open in September," he said, "and the existing café becomes part of the shop."
He said that that would provide an additional 2,000sq ft for the expansion of the centre's garden furniture and barbecue offer.
"I think we'll be adding more depth to the arrangement from existing suppliers," he said.
Fosseway's plans have met with opposition from some local traders, worried that the larger café would take business away from the town.
However, planning officers at the council decided that it was unlikely to boost customer numbers significantly, although Mr Goodwin admitted: "Its earning potential is good. We're hoping for more customers, spending more."
