A teleshopping presentation for a pair of solar-powered Tiffany-style garden lights did not mislead viewers over the cost of post and packaging, the ad watchdog has decided.
On-screen text during the Bid TV presentation stated: "2PK Large Solar Powered Tiffany Style Garden Lights ... UK P&P £7.99". But the presenter was encouraging viewers to multi-buy the products, suggesting purchasing "up to nine pairs with one phone call". The on-screen price appeared and the presenter then said: "That's not a bad price...even if you add on the postage and packaging..."
A viewer thought the ad was misleading because it was not clear that postage and packaging was applied to each item if purchased as a multi-buy.
However, the Advertising Standards Authority replied that the on-screen text clearly stated the postage and packaging charge for a pack of two lights, and said that because it was held throughout the presentation consumers would understand the charge related to that pack. It also acknowledged that the presenter had not mentioned one postage and packaging charge for multi-buy items.
