Garsons wins food retail award

Published: 23 May 2007
Family-run garden centre business Garsons has scooped top prize at the Re:fresh Awards 2007 as the Foods from Spain Independent Retailer of the Year.
The annual Re:fresh Awards highlight outstanding performance in the field of food retailing.

Garsons, which has two garden centres and farm shop locations in Esher in Surrey and Titchfield in Hampshire, carries local produce and speciality foods.

The site at Esher devotes 75% of its floor space to fresh produce, and has the biggest Pick Your Own farm in the country offering 35 different fruit, vegetable and flower crops.

In April it opened the farm gates for 'Pick Your Own Asparagus' and hopes to open its strawberry fields towards the end of this month.

The awards mark a successful period for the centre, which has recently won a FARMA (National Farmers' Retail & Markets Association) prize for National Pick Your Own of the Year Award and Farm Shop Retailer of the Year Award.

Garsons is currently run by the fifth generation of the Thompson family.
