Research conducted by Glee organisers raises possible concerns about the market need for Lofa’s exhibition.
TPS has confirmed that Glee Outdoor Living will be unaffected by Lofa's decision to launch a new, members-only outdoor furniture exhibition.
It has also voiced concerns over a market need for Solex as a result of its own independent buyer research.
A telephone survey conducted by Explomarket Ltd across 100 outdoor furniture buyers in Spring this year revealed that 9 out of 10 respondents felt that Glee is held at the best time of the year in terms of buying patterns.
It also reported that more than 60% of buyers asked stated that they buy in garden furniture over a three-month period from September to November, with only 11% buying in July – the month planned for Lofa's Solex exhibition.
Interestingly, 34% respondents have not even heard of Lofa.
Glee managing director Alison Jackson said: "Our understanding of organising trade shows leads us to believe that Lofa may be doing its members, and buyers, a disservice with the format and timing of its new show."
Refering to garden furniture buyers, she added that Glee's research "overwhelmingly pinpointed that September is not only the best timing for their buying cycle; but that Glee is where they do their buying."
Glee also suggested that it will be reviewing Lofa's sponsoring association status, but still welcomes Lofa members exhibiting at the show.
