Glee to downsize again to create more buzz
Published: 18 February 2009
Slow bookings by independents and the need to create a better buzz will see this year's Glee show take place in less than half the number of halls it did in 2008.
The show, at Birmingham's NEC, is to be condensed into halls three, three A, four and five, with the latter being the focus for a concentrated gardening products show case.
It was announced at the end of the event last year that the show's nine hall spread would be reduced to six and it has now been announced this will be cut to just four.
However, the organiser are keen to point out this should reduce criticism about empty spaces at the back of halls and hopefully create more 'buzz' due to the closeness of exhibitors.
Senior marketing manager, Carl Groves, told diyweek.net: "The feedback we've had from people is that the show needed to be more condensed and having more people in together will create more of a buzz."
Mr Groves also said while the show would keep the option for the additional halls should the economic situation or the summer surprise the trade, independents were holding back on the booking.
He added: "The feedback from bigger players has been great, but some smaller companies have been tightening their belts."
