I Grunwerg's Global knives brand will be supporting the Royal Marines in a special cookery contest kicking off tomorrow.
Once a year the Marines, RAF and Army take on a different kind of battle in the form of the Joint Services Catering Competition to find the best chef in their field.
This year Grunwerg will be supporting the eight teams from across the Marines family who will compete in The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Field Cookery Competition for the chance to win a Michel Roux Jnr Global knife set and to be entered into the overall competition. The winning team will then take on the RAF and Army in the field and live cooking events.
The Marines will need to show their abilities to cook good quality food using only the equipment and rations that they would typically get whilst deployed on operations.
They will be given two boxes of 10-man rations of differing menus and a small mystery box of fresh supplements. From this they must produce two dishes, 10 portions of each choice, of main and dessert. Each team consists of two chefs and one assistant.
Most of the chefs have worked in Afghanistan, providing nutritional food in hostile environments and locations.
