Wyevale Nurseries last Wednesday (May 16, 2018) helped to host an event dedicated to good soil management practice.
Wyevale Nurseries alongside Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) and ADAS hosted a GREATsoils (Growing Resilient, Efficient and Thriving Soils) event for growers focusing on soil management and precision farming in hardy nursery stock.
Transplant Division Director at Wyevale Nurseries, Ray Jenkins explained: “Soil is one of the most important assets a grower has. GREATsoils is a programme funded by AHDB Horticulture to inspire and support growers to assess and manage the health of their soils.
“The event started at Ledbury Rugby Club, which included presentations from myself, ADAS and AHDB. The whole day was centred around sustainable soil management strategies and precision technologies, which offer growers the opportunities to improve soil and nutrient management with the potential to increase yields and profitability.
“The morning session was followed by a trip to our Transplants site with guided tours of the fields and open discussions about our soil management practices. We were delighted to be involved with the event and welcome other growers to our nursery. The engagement was fantastic with conversations and questions a plenty. We look forward to further events with the GREATsoils programme and sharing our knowledge with other growers.”.
