Grosvenor Garden Centre has been named 'Green City' regional winner of a brand new award.
The centre, in Wrexham Road, Chester, was the North West regional winner of the Green City Town and Country Community Award in conjunction with the Garden Centre Association.
The Green City philosophy is based on the concept that plants bring social, economic and environmental benefits and encourages better use of outdoor spaces.
Only three centres in the region met the criteria for the competition from a host of entries with Grosvenor standing 'head and shoulders above the others', according to judge Amanda Long.
She said: "I was very impressed with the enthusiasm and creativity Grosvenor Garden Centre showed with their entry - members of staff have really supported the initiative and the message of the Green City were prominently in force."
Iain Wylie, managing director of Grosvenor, added: "We are delighted to represent the region in the national finals, and feel this new award underlines Grosvenor's long-standing policy of sourcing ethical and organic produce across all our ranges."
