Grovewell Garden Centres, owner of Tenterden Garden Centre, has opened a second centre just outside Canterbury in Kent.
The new centre, in Herne Common and named Canterbury Garden Centre, opened just before Easter. Owner Edward Boult bought the site, formerly Bradshaws Nurseries, in 2007 and started the build in August 2008 - meaning the total build only took seven months, despite delays.
"We literally managed to open just in time for Easter," said Mr Boult. And lucky he did, as trade over the Easter weekend, particularly the Monday, was "amazing".
"We hadn't advertised as we didn't know when we'd be opening," said Mr Boult. "So to nearly match our Tenterden Garden Centre on the Saturday was pleasing, but then to comfortably exceed Tenterden on the Monday shows the capability of the centre. The local reaction is amazing and I guess we will also turn a few heads in the industry."
