A man with an artificial leg has been saved months in a wheelchair or several thousand pounds - thanks to a hardware shop hero.
Gary Wight, the owner of Exmouth Power Tools in Exmouth, Devon, did a repair job for free on Dave Parr's limb after he broke a joint in its foot.

After the accident whilst on holiday, Mr Parr was told he faced three months in a wheelchair while waiting for the NHS to fix the leg, or paying £7,000 to go privately.

Instead, he went to his local hardware specialist to buy a tool for the foot - where Mr Wight took charge and mended the limb there and then for no charge.

He told the Plymouth Herald: "We didn't even think about it, we just got on with the job. It wasn't anything special, just something we had to do.

"It was an easy fix really, the only difficult bit was realigning it as Dave wanted it.

"It's not rocket science, let's put it that way, just basic engineering - although I imagine the scientists who make these things don't see it that way.

"We were happy to help," he added, "and glad to get Dave back on his feet."
