Cumbrian garden centre Hayes Garden World is inviting entries from primary schools across the UK for its new Schools Art competition.
In celebration of 2015 as The Year of the Sunflower, The Ambleside business has teamed up with arts education specialist Creative Futures Cumbria for the initiative. Along with the competition to design sunflower seed packets - which will be on sale in Hayes from the end of the year - a free learning resource has been created.
Teachers are invited to register online for the resource, which illustrates how sunflowers link a multitude of subjects, from science and nature to famous artworks, geography, culture and foods. The learning resource also includes the template for the seed packet design.
Competition entries are invited from all parts of the UK and will be displayed in Hayes Garden World's store, where the public will be asked to vote for their favourites via a ballot box. The competition is open from now until July 17 2015.
The winning schools will be awarded £1000, £750 or £500 as first, second or third prize winners.
Hayes Garden World is one of the UK's leading garden centres and is known for championing projects that encourage a love of nature, growing and gardening among local schoolchildren.
