Hillier to open £3m flagship garden centre in Eastbourne

Hillier Garden Centres is nearing completion on a £3m flagship centre set to open in Eastbourne next month.
The new development, located on the former Glynley Nursery site on Hailsham Road, will create 16 new jobs, with another 10 people being employed through the centre's new concessions.
Speaking to
DIY Week, business development manager Tim Mason said: "This will be an exciting development for Hillier - it's the only new build that we have ever undertaken. It'll be a true destination, something that will be a fantastic facility for the local people in East Sussex."
Plants will predominate at the new centre, which will also include a coffee shop themed around plants and Hillier's heritage, as well as a large covered area where people can shop in comfort for plants and gardening products. There will also be a large area for leisure and giftware.
Mr Mason added: "We definitely want to be a big part of the community. It's had fantastic support from the locals and from our old customer base, who have been taking a real interest in how it's been developing.
"There was a very popular garden centre here before. We took that over but although it was very popular and well supported, the buildings were quite dilapidated so we took the decision to commit to the area and build a new centre here."
The flagship store will open on February 11.
