Home improvement 'on the up'
The annual Halifax Home Improvement Survey reported a 12% increase in the number of people who have undertaken some form of home improvement in the last year.

Redecorating was ranked as the most popular enhancement by the survey, with garden improvements and a new bathroom also fetauring in the top five jobs carried out.

According to the report, over a quarter of partcipants estimate that the work completed in the last 12 months will add over £5,000 to the value of their home.

The kitchen was cited as the room most people would like to change, however Halifax believes that restrictions such as finances or limited ability mean that it rarely appears in the top three commonly conducted improvements.

Top 5 home improvements:

  • Redecorating
  • Garden improvements
  • New furnishing
  • Laminate/wood flooring
  • New bathroom
