Consultation period for staff already under way as DIY chain prepares to close Wellingborough supply depot in August.
Homebase will shut its international supply depot in Wellingborough by the end of August with the positions of all 166 workers put at risk.
Shocked staff, who told the Northants Evening Telegraph they had been assured 'up until last week' that their jobs were safe, have entered into a period of consultation with their employer.
The possibility of work at other depots has been described as a 'carrot' being held up to motivate staff through the busy summer period.
The warehouse, which is run by leading logistics company, DHL, is one of three Homebase supply operations in Wellingborough.
A spokesperson for Homebase said: "Homebase can confirm that it has recently announced a proposal to close its operations at the ISC Wellingborough distribution centre.
"If through consultation, we conclude that the site will close, we expect to offer redeployment to the majority of colleagues to the other Wellingborough sites in Octavian Park and Park Farm.
"Home Retail Group is taking this action now to ensure that it is well placed to continue to offer customers the great value, choice and convenience for which it is known."
