Two employees at a brand new Homebase store in Clitheroe were arrested last night after the site was one of the locations raided by police in a large-scale anti-terror operation across north-west England.
Reports this morning say up to 100 police swooped on the store in Queensway, which was due to open to the public for the first time this morning, at about 5.30pm yesterday. Two men, understood to be recently employed security guards, were arrested and taken away from the scene.
The move was part of an operation which saw 12 suspects arrested at eight properties across the north-west. Intelligence had suggested there was an imminent threat from a group linked with al-Qaeda and Home Secretary Jacqui Smith described the result as a "successful anti-terrorism operation".
