Data released by Visa shows that homeowners spent 6% more in DIY and household stores this Easter weekend compared to Easter last year.
Spurred on by the strong housing market, Visa says homeowners are continuing to invest in their homes, which is evident by this increase in spend.
Visa says that almost £210m was spent last weekend compared to around £196m spent during Easter 2013. This figure was 17% higher than during Easter 2012.
Around £70m was spent on Visa cards on Saturday, making it the busiest day of the weekend, while spending on Easter Monday increased by 11% on last year.
To date DIY spending on Visa cards is 10% higher than in 2013, despite the late Easter.
Director of retailer engagement at Visa Europe, Natasha Toothill, said: "The strong DIY spend over Easter signals two things: the continued overall recovery in consumer confidence and spending; and further evidence of homeowners investing in their properties to capitalise on a buoyant housing market."
