Ikea reveals profits of €2.5bn for 2009

The Ikea Group has publicly revealed its profits for the first time, releasing a yearly summary in a bid to share more information about the company.
The Swedish retail giant reported total sales up 1.4% to €21.8bn for the full year to August 31, 2009. Net profit increased by 11.3% to €2.5bn compared to the previous year.
Sales for the full year to August 2010 recovered strongly, rising 7.7% to €23.1bn, although profit levels have yet to be published.
The company opened 15 new stores in 2009 and 12 new stores in 2010, taking the Ikea portfolio to 280 stores in 26 countries.
The company said that out of the €2.5bn earned during 2009, €2.1bn was invested in new stores and facilities.
It now intends to release a yearly summary, called 'Welcome Inside", aimed at informing employees and suppliers more about the business.
