Ikea starts selling solar panels in store
Published: 30 September 2013
Ikea has teamed up with global solar company, Hanergy, to sell solar panels and a full installation service to its customers in its stores.
Costing around £5700 for an average semi-detached house, the company is using Hanergy's new generation all-black panels, said to be the most advanced models on the market.
The nationwide initiative started today at Ikea's Southampton store and it will be rolled out across all of its 17 UK stores within the next 10 months. Ikea Family Members can now purchase a standard 3.36kW photovoltaic (PV) system (inclusive of VAT) or choose a solar finance package with no upfront cost.
Commenting on the launch, head of sustainability Ikea UK and Ireland, Joanna Yarrow, said: "We're excited to be able to help customers take positive actions at home for both the environment and their wallets. We know that our customers want to live more sustainably and we hope working with Hanergy to make solar panels affordable and easily available helps them do just that.
