Independent DIY retailer to cycle Vietnam for MIND
Published: 5 October 2012
Neville Johnny, of Johnny's DIY and Building Supplies in Deptford, south east London, will cycle 450km over five days from north to south Vietnam next September.
The ride has been organised by Charity Challenge and will involve around 30 people from various charities pedalling the distance between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city. Mr Johnny is raising money for mental health charity MIND, a cause close to his heart. "My two older brothers suffer from long term mental illness," he told DIY Week. "It is something that I have lived with throughout my life and I truly believe in MIND's ideology."
Mr Johnny is no stranger to the saddle. Not only does he cycle to and from work each day, in 2004 he cycled across Cuba to raise £3,000 for MIND, aged 37. "It was such a great experience but very difficult," he said. "I promised myself that I would do another ride in my forties and one in my fifties. I will be 47 when I cycle Vietnam in September 2013."
Mr Johnny has set himself a fundraising target of £4,500. Donations can be made
