DIY Week's Rachael Lyon and Will Parsons are just two of the 17 individuals taking to the skies for the inaugural Rainy Day Trust tandem parachute jump on Sunday September 25th.
The volunteers will each carry out a tandem jump at the British Army Parachute Association training centre at Netheravon, Wiltshire, right in the middle of the MOD's training facilities on Salisbury Plain. The jump, from a height of 13,500 ft, includes a 45-second, 120mph freefall before the parachute is deployed.
The purpose of the jump is to raise much-needed funds for the industry charity the Rainy Day Trust, and each member of the team has undertaken to raise £1,000 - but we need your help to get there!
The team this year comprises:
Richard Stuckes - Akzo Nobel
Alistair McAuley - Akzo Nobel
Kate Perrett - BHF Group
Marina Coombes - BHF Group
Rachael Lyon - DIY Week
Will Parsons - DIY Week
Caroline Williams - Grayling
Jason Burns - Honeywell
John Worth - Integra Products
Barbara Dark - MDA
Michael Dark - MDA
Wayne Mohammed - Precision
Robert Milliken - Sam's Trade Centre
Russ Morris - Valspar
Rachael Barton - Visqueen Building Products
Nina Petty - wife of RDT president Colin Petty
Deb Duncan - wife of RDT vice president Philip Duncan
If you would like to support any of the team please just email us at
parachute@fav-house.com and tell us who you wish to sponsor, and for how much, we will add you to the list of sponsors.
Alternatively, if you want to avoid any favouritism just make a pledge using the same email address quoting 'team sponsorship' showing your support for all of us and for the home improvement industry's only dedicated charity.
Rainy Day Trust president, and DIY Week publisher, Colin Petty said: "The response to the parachute jump has been incredible. With 17 people signed up to take part, it seems there are quite a lot of people out there who are really excited about the idea of throwing themselves out of an aeroplane! And if means they have fun and the Rainy Day Trust benefits as a result, then that's a win all round.
"The home improvement industry has always been tremendously supportive of the Trust and its work, and I'm sure we can depend on the industry to really dig deep in support of this new fund-raising initiative."
