Jewson and Howarth Timber unite for charity football match in support of The Christie Charity

Published: 25 June 2025 - DIY Week

On Sunday 29th June 2025, Jewson and Howarth Timber will set aside their friendly rivalry and come together for a special charity football match at Gigg Lane, the historic home of Bury FC. This one-off event is being held in support of The Christie Charity, a cause that holds deep meaning for many across the North-West and Manchester regions.

The Christie Charity has supported countless individuals across the Jewson community, including staff, friends, and family members who have received care at their facilities. Among them was Bob Kettlety, a much-loved colleague who recently passed away after an inspiring 11-year journey with cancer. Bob’s story is just one of many that highlights the importance of the charity’s work and the impact it has had on the lives of those connected to Jewson.

The day promises to be more than just a football match. From 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM, families and supporters can enjoy a range of activities including face painting, a caricaturist, and a sweet table. A trophy handover will take place during the final 45 minutes of the event. Supporter T-shirts are available for £20, with all proceeds going directly to The Christie Charity. These can be purchased by donating through the JustGiving page and quoting “Shirt Purchase” along with the buyer’s full name and branch. The design features supplier names across the back, and sizes range from S to 2XL.

Jason Cadogan, General Manager at Jewson, shared his thoughts on the event: “Bringing two merchants together for one common cause shows the power of community beyond competition. We’re proud to stand side by side with Howarth Timber in support of The Christie Charity. This match at Gigg Lane isn’t just about football - it’s about making a real difference together. This event is more than just a game – it’s a chance for us to give back to a cause that means so much to so many.”

“The Christie’s incredible work has touched the lives of our friends, families, and customers alike, providing world-class care and unwavering support during some of life’s most difficult moments. Every pound raised brings us closer to helping them continue their vital mission... I hope to captain the team to victory - if I get picked!”

A spokesperson from The Christie Charity expressed their gratitude, saying, “Jewson have been a charity partner of the hospice for many years now and with their help we have been able to fund life-saving treatments and change lives. It's fantastic to see them putting together another event in aid of our charity. We cannot thank them enough. Good luck!”

Parking will be available at the ground and along Gigg Lane. While there’s no formal weather contingency plan, attendees are encouraged to bring a coat and enjoy the day, rain or shine. QR codes will be available on-site for easy donations, and the fundraising page will remain open for a week after the event to allow continued support. Jewson has set a fundraising goal of £15,000, and with the support of the community, they’re confident they can reach it.

This may be the first event of its kind, but there’s hope it will be the start of many more. For more information, to donate, or to get involved, please contact us at charitymatch@jewson.co.uk
