John Guest Speedfit helped represent the UK in the plumbing skills section of the recent WorldSkills London 2011 event.
The WorldSkills show , which took place at the Excel centre on October 5-8, aimed to introduce children from across the world to 46 different skill areas. John Guest's participation was in continuation of its support towards the development of young people's skills, shown by its continuing apprenticeship programme.
Recruited by the Worshipful Company of Plumbers for the event, Guest supplied the plumbing 'Have-a-Go' area with 1,000 pipe and fittings kits, and gave away 250 kits a day over 4 days. The kits allowed visitors to assemble a rig, test it to an industrial standard, and then dismantle it to take home.
WorldSkills was attended by more than 60,000 children from 50 countries in total. John Guest also gave goodie bags to the student volunteers from Hackney, Croydon and Willesden Colleges.
