John Lewis sees sales rise

Sales at John Lewis increased 12.2% to £57.8m for the week ending August 28, as customers continued to spend in store and online despite looming tax increases.
Online sales shot up 30%, while the home department saw sales rise 16%, boosted by cooking and dining and a new home catalogue.
There was good news from
the retailer's latest 'at home' store, which opened in Croydon on August 26. The store "enjoyed a brisk start with a great customer reaction to our second small-format shop," said the report.
John Lewis head of multi channel Simon Russell said: "The bank holiday weekend got us off to a flying start to the week and with some great new products arriving daily combined with a great shopping experience, whether online or in shops, we hope that we will continue to hit the mark with our customers."
