The roof of John Lewis' flagship store on Oxford Street will be transformed into a garden to celebrate 150 years of the company.
The first John Lewis store opened on May 2 1864 on Oxford Street as a draper's shop. Today the company is worth £4b and has 41 stores across the UK.
The rooftop garden is due to be designed by Tony Woods, Royal Horticultural Society national young designer of 2013, and gardeners from the Longstock estate.
Opening to the public later in the year, it will become one of London's largest urban rooftop gardens and one that will boast some of the best views across the capital.
Other celebrations include an interactive exhibition of the original shop, an installation which will tell the story of how a WWII bomb threatened the future of the company and products for sale in store and online which have been exclusively designed by big names for the 150th anniversary.
Celebrations begin in stores across the country on May 3 and during that week John Lewis will launch a TV advert to mark the occasion.
