£2 from the sale of every album, including those sold on iTunes, will be donated to the children's charity. £1 will be contributed by the John Lewis Partnership which includes John Lewis department stores and Waitrose shops. The other £1 will be donated by music label Universal Music UK.

The album, titled Reworked, will launch on Monday, November 28 and will be sold in 35 John Lewis shops (29 department stores and six at home shops), on www.johnlewis.com and in 226 Waitrose branches.

The album features 11 tracks from classic John Lewis ads, including the hit song from the current John Lewis Christmas advert - a cover of The Smiths 'Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want' sung by Slow Moving Millie.

It also features Ellie Goulding's hit cover of Elton John's 'Your Song' which provided the soundtrack to John Lewis's Christmas advert in 2010 and made it to number 2 in the charts, as well as Taken by Trees' rendition of Guns & Roses' 'Sweet Child O' Mine' from John Lewis' Christmas ad campaign in 2009.

The tracks from John Lewis' latest Never Knowingly Undersold ad campaign, which featured vignettes set in different decades accompanied by iconic soundtracks, are also reworked and appear on the album.

John Lewis marketing director Craig Inglis said of the launch: "Over the last four years, we have become known for our innovative use of music within our TV advertising. This exciting new album reflects that success whilst also generating funds for a fantastic cause."
