Department store chain voted UK’s favourite retailer for second year in a row, with Swedish store Ikea in second place.
Verdict Research's latest report has revealed that John Lewis is once again the nation's top retailer. The Consumer Satisfaction Index 2009 found that John Lewis is more highly regarded than any of its competitors, winning the top spot by a 'significant margin' ahead of Ikea in second place.
The report found that, despite a more price-focused retail market with more demanding customers, John Lewis managed to attain the same satisfaction score as last year.
Looking at specific sectors, Wickes, Wilkinson and B&Q were rated the nation's three favourite DIY retailers, while John Lewis, Ikea and Wilkinson topped the homewares category.
To complete the survey, customers were asked about where they shopped most frequently and then told to rate those stores in terms of range, price, convenience, quality, service, ambience, facilities and layout.
The 2008 retailer rank is as follows, with their 2007 positions in brackets:
1. John Lewis (1)
2. Ikea (5)
