Kingfisher has won a series of design awards for several of its products, including a door chime, sealant applicator and lawnmower.
The B&Q and Screwfix parent, which also has home improvement chains in Europe, received accolades for four of its products from the jury of the Observeur du Design 2016 Awards in France.
Available in B&Q and Castorama France, the wireless door chime DC7 has a 100m operating range and alerts you when someone is at the door even if you are in the garden, thanks to its rechargeable portable unit.
The Sealmate sealant applicator has a comfortable grip and the silicone container gives the user better control of the mortar flow, while the nozzle provides more precision during application, reducing wastage. It is available in Castorama Poland and France.
Awards also went to two MacAllister brand products. The cordless hammer drill, which has three LED lights to give better visibility, has a three-in-one function: screwdriver, drill and pneumatic hammer. Visible rotation enables the user to see whether the drill is screwing or unscrewing. It is sold in Castorama France.
Available in B&Q, Castorama France and Poland, Brico Depot Spain and Koçtas Turkey, the MacAllister sliding handle lawnmower is light and effortless to manoeuvre, while the retractable sliding handle and foldable grass collector make it easy to store.
The four products will be exhibited at the Cité des Sciences in Paris for a year from December.
In a separate competition in Germany, Kingfisher also scooped the coveted Red Dot Product Design Award 2015 for its Verve range of garden cutting tools. Available at B&Q and Castorama France, these garden loppers use fibreglass technology and have an integrated multi-level gearing system to improve the cutting ability of the carbon steel blades.
Kingfisher says it is now working on the next phase of product development, which will include a unique garden and bathroom offer to be sold across Europe.
