Klondyke buys Byrkley Garden Centre

Klondyke Group has announced the acquisition of Byrkley Garden Centre in Rangemore, Burton-Upon-Trent, Staffs, for an undisclosed sum.
The purchase takes Klondyke's portfolio to 25 centres, with a combined turnover "approaching £50m" said the company. However, it is difficult to tell how much of that will come from Byrkley as the company has only filed very abbreviated figures in the past. The sale follows the disposal of its sister site Worcester Garden Centre to Blooms (now part of the Garden Centre Group) in 2006.
Klondyke chairman Bob Gault said of the acquisition: "We are very pleased to acquire Byrkley, a large 'destination' garden centre which has been a well run family-owned business for over 20 years. The acquisition is a valuable strategic addition for the Klondyke Group that will complement our existing portfolio of garden centres."
Former owners Frank and Mike Thompstone said: "We are extremely proud of Byrkley Garden Centre and the success it has become since its inception almost 25 years ago. We are greatly indebted to our loyal and hard working staff who were recognised with the GCA Best People Award in 2009. We are pleased that Anna Thompstone is being retained as part of the Management Team and we look forward to seeing the business prosper in the future for both the new owners and their staff."
