Littlewoods Direct spends heavily on latest ad campaign

Retailer bucks trend during ‘credit crunch’ and splashes out £5.5m on Christmas advertising campaign.
At a time when many companies are reining in their advertising spend to try and cut costs, Littlewoods Direct has made its biggest ever investment in mass media advertisement.
The multi-channel campaign, which includes TV, print and online, will run from November 3 to December 23.
The 50-second television adverts will feature a Littlewoods Direct spacecraft lading on a planet, transforming its inhabitants with outfits and electrical goods.
To support the ad, a print campaign will run across a number f national magazines and news titles, including Marie Claire, Glamour and The Sun.
Trading director David Inglis said: "We are focusing this campaign around the key issues for our customers, namely great products, affordably priced and conveniently delivered, while reflecting the enjoyment of gift giving at Christmas.
"The purpose of thiks campaign is to drive sales and recruit new customers as the Christmas period accounts for around 40% of our annual sales."
