To mark the first International DIY Day, new European DIY online retailer ManoMano has revealed a map of the UK's top DIY habits and buys.
The map reveals that home-owners in the south are particularly “into” their bathrooms, kitchens and plumbing, while top gardeners can be found in the South East and West, with the worst in London and the North-East.
Northern DIYers keep on top of interior design with paints, wallpaper and flooring, while North Irish dwellers are the most tool-savvy fixers. Meanwhile, the best electricians can be found in Scotland and Wales.
The infographic also revealed some fairly unusual DIY purchasing trends, from silver glitter furniture paint being highly sought after in Bradford and Sheffield, to silver sparkle wallpaper in Liverpool and Manchester.
Meanwhile, the Arthouse Enchantment Room Divider is a top seller in London, while kitchen step stools thrive in Oxford. Southampton shoppers are mad for luxury chrome toilet roll holders, while practical Glaswegians like their chain oil for chainsaws. Meanwhile, Bristolians love their XXL Drywall Lift.
ManoMano is hosting a nationwide contest on Facebook to encourage UK people to share their DIY projects and aspirations, as well as a flash sale on its website. There is also a competition to win £300 to spend on manomano.co.uk.
ManoMano co-founder Phillippe de Chanville said: “International DIY Day has been created to encourage more people to embrace DIY, by getting started or completing any long-awaited projects – big or small.“
Co-founder Christian Raisson added: “The day perfectly resonates with ManoMano’s original and long-term aim to make DIY and home improvements more accessible and affordable, especially by providing a first-of-its-kind customer experience in a sector that is still dominated by long-time established brands and traditional retail chain.”
