Mid-Sussex Timber (MST) saw in a milestone this year, as it proudly celebrated its 90th year in business.
Since 1929, MST has been supplying directly imported Timber to the Building Trade & Retail markets and is now has said it is one of the largest stockists in Sussex. Since the first branch opened in 1929 in East Grinstead, the business has gone from strength to strength, having since expanded to three other Sussex locations including Haywards Heath, Forest Row, and most recently, Crowborough. Fast forward 90 years and the business, to this day, remains family-run and is operated by second and third-generation family members; Tim, Simon, Alex and Cara Waters.
To celebrate, the team at MST held an evening of racing at Lingfield Park Racecourse attended by a total of 80 people. The invitation was extended to past as well as present employees along with their partners.
The included a three-course dinner between races, as well as two speeches delivered by Simon Waters, MST’s sales director who talked attendees through the history of the business and what has brought them here today and by Tim Waters, managing director, who presented an award for one of the day’s races that MST sponsored. The evening concluded with a particularly poignant gift for the business's current directors, which was an engraved 1929 sixpence!
MST also launched its brand-new website in May of this year, bringing the business fully online, the new site features real-time inventory and stock, nominated day delivery, as well as a branch-specific click and collect service.
Alex Waters, operations director and Grandson of founder, said: “90 years is a landmark anniversary for any c, but for a small independent business such as ourselves, it is even more ground breaking. A celebration like this gives us a valuable opportunity to reward all our staff who worked so hard to get Mid-Sussex Timber to where it is today.
"Looking ahead, our new website and real-time inventory helps us take that important step into the future as we continually develop and improve our services to our customers."
