Supermarket chain Morrisons has revealed plans to create more than 5,000 jobs this year as part of its store space expansion programme.
The chain, which is the UK's fourth largest super-market, says the jobs will be across the business in a 'variety of positions'.
Morrisons' HR director, Norman Pickavance, said: "Even in these challenging economic conditions, we're committed to hiring and training new people to keep retail as the engine room of the economy and support our continuing growth.
"The Fresh Food Academy will strengthen our position as the UK's leading proponent of retail craft food skills, skills which help people build a career, and help us further increase the quality, value and service we provide to our customers."
The course will see staff given the chance to earn qualifications up to and including NVG level five, as well as optional further training to gain key skills in maths and English.
