National Nest Box Week gets backing from Birstall
Published: 20 February 2014
Birstall Garden Centre in Leicester has been encouraging its customers to get involved with National Nest Box Week (NNBW) this week to help give homes to breeding birds in time for spring.
NNBW was set up in 1997 to help replace natural nesting sites that are being destroyed owing to trees being chopped down, gardens being tidied and old buildings being repaired.
Owner of Birstall Garden Centre, Jordan Lee, says: "It's crucial at this time of year that we give a helping hand to the conservation of our wildlife, and Nest Box Week is a great way to give a home to a family of birds that otherwise wouldn't have one."
Since NNBW started, around 5m more boxes have been made available to birds across the UK.
Officially, NNBW runs till tomorrow, February 21, but everyone is encouraged to get involved whenever they can. Nest boxes can be placed in gardens and in people's local areas.
