As part of B&Q's campaign to make DIY easier, the home improvement chain has launched the first of a series of new ads, which will be aired in the run up to Easter.
The move is part of a £6m media investment by the Kingfisher-owned firm, with the first commercial set to screen on ITV this evening. The ad will showcase a series of hilarious and unfortunate DIY mishaps, whilst underlining what B&Q is doing to help encourage Brits to overcome their DIY fears and start 'doing it together' with a little help from the experts.
The plan is for the first ad to be closely followed by a further two commercials showing families successfully enjoying doing DIY together.
While it may appear a bold move for a DIY retailer to demonstrate to consumers how daunting DIY can be, the new ad campaign is all part of B&Q's mission to overcome people's fears, and make DIY easier. "The first ad is the reality", explained Kingfisher group chief executive Ian Cheshire today. "The next stage is showing projects you can do, if you've got half a day or a weekend... How you can pimp your shed or how to redecorate a room in a day, if you've got people coming."
The new strapline, "Let's do it together', is a move away from the company's original 'You can do it' message but follows on from a recent poll that revealed 53% of Brits are scared of DIY and 29% of respondents claim to be absolutely terrible at it.
B&Q marketing director Katherine Paterson said: "B&Q is on a mission to make DIY easier and by admitting that most of us are scared or just don't like DIY, we want to help by giving the nation the skills and confidence they need to overcome their fears.
As our new ad reveals, we have so much to offer our customers this Easter, from online advice with our celebrity experts to in store project demonstrations and DIY classes. DIY doesn't have to be difficult and by doing it together it's even easier."
