New garden centre for south coast

Published: 3 March 2009
A car showroom will be transformed into a garden centre after councilors gave plans the greenlight - despite objections from their planning department.
Councillors at Brighton and Hove Council were recommended to refuse planning permission to transform the disused car showroom and workshops in Old Shoreham Road, Brighton.

The application means the demolition of minor buildings on the site, extension of the petrol filling station shop and other changes to the site.

The council had opposed the plans due to the loss of industrial land to retail.

The new garden centre will create up to 70 jobs will be created when a derelict car showroom is transformed into a garden centre.
