Family-run Marlows Home and Garden Centre in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk has been sold by its owners, who are looking to retire.
The business has been bought by the Con Mech group of engineering and manufacturing companies, which also owns the Tripp Batt country store in Bury St Edmunds, selling a range of garden machinery and DIY equipment.
Marlows has been trading for 35 years, but brothers Michael and Philip Underwood, who are both in their seventies, now want to call it a day.
The business started out selling DIY products but added the garden centre 25 years ago. In 2006 it introduced a new coffee shop and also ventured into selling dining, bedroom, occasional and garden furniture.
The sale of the business was negotiated by Quinton Edwards, which was also involved in another business changeover completed last week. A new lease was agreed on Chilton Nursery, Chilton Cantelo in Somerset, to Global Berry soft fruit growers.
