Nine jobs lost as Garden Centre Group closes smallest centre

Published: 14 February 2011
The Garden Centre Group is set to close its smallest centre at Church Lawford, with the loss of nine jobs.
Ceo Nicolas Marshall said: "It is with some regret that we have decided to close our smallest garden centre in the group at Church Lawford. Its last day of trading will be Friday, February 25, 2011. It has been struggling to make ends meet for the past two years, owing to the growth and popularity of one of its larger sister garden centres at Rugby, only five miles away."

Blooms Rugby Garden Centre, located on Straight Mile in Bourton-on-Dunsmore, was completely redeveloped in 2005. Many Church Lawford customers had been using both garden centres, according to Mr Marshall.

Church Lawford Nursery & Garden Centre had a total of 13 employees, nine of which have now been made redundant. The centre's manager and administrator were due to retire this year, while four members of staff so far have found jobs within The Garden Centre Group.

"We have endeavoured since the beginning of the year to help staff find alternative employment," said Mr Marshall.
