A Northumberland garden centre has been given the go-ahead to expand its offer of clothing and footwear.
Rival businesses near to Wyevale Garden Centre's Heighley Gate Garden Centre, near Morpeth, were concerned that the plan would adversely affect their trade.
However, the garden centre will now increase its clothing area from 1,300sq m to 2,000sq m after Northumberland County Council officers decided there would be little negative impact, and a vote went in the garden centre's favour.
A spokesperson for Wyevale Garden Centres told diyweek.net: "We are pleased that the application was approved and look forward to continuing to share our passion for gardens and gardening with the local community."
Heighley Gate also offers a restaurant, children's play areas and community events, attracting visitors from as far as Edinburgh and Yorkshire. It says it complements the retail offers in Morpeth and other nearby communities.
