Ocado launches DIY range
Published: 19 September 2012
Online retailer Ocado has launched a new DIY and car care range on the back of a 16.6% uptake in gross sales in its latest yearly results.
The range includes discounted Draper lines, with some items retailing at just 99p, as well as goods from Loctite, Sellotape and The AA. Items on sale range from hardware and cleaning products to higher-spec power tools.
It comes following the etailer's yearly report, where chief executive officer Tim Steiner outlined his intentions to expand the business. "We believe the biggest threat to the growth of the online market is under-investment; retailers will not be able to fully service increasing customer demand unless they invest in online sales capacity."
"We believe the best way for Ocado to acquire new customers, as well as retain existing customers, is to continue to develop and improve the Ocado offer. We have worked to improve this on many levels for the benefit of our customers."
Ocado's foray into DIY vindicates recent research by delivery company DPD that DIY will be one of the
fastest-growing etail sectors over the next year.
Ocado's range of DIY and car care products is tipped to expand over the coming winter months.
