An episode of 'Mary Queen of Shops' which features retail guru Mary Portas filming at Totally DIY 2010 is set to air on Monday, July 12 on BBC2 at 9pm.
One to watch: Totally on TV
The programme is part of a third series in which Mary takes on high street stores in a bid to help them compete against the supermarkets and big chains.

This episode features Lightwater Homecare in Surrey, and shows store owner Tony Leach and assistant Jane Curtis being put through their paces in the product demonstration area at Totally by Mary, with help from Toolbank product manager Nigel Blow.

The Lightwater store has seen profits plunge by 60% in the last three years, as people reject their local shop in favour of the chain stores and warehouses. Mary battles resistance as she tries to focus the business and revolutionise DIY shopping and service.

We have found the whole series really interesting. The DIY episode was the most relevant to our business. Many of our customers commented on the programme when they came into our shop on Tuesday morning. The staff in the programme were very motivated and open to new ideas it was a pity the boss was not. Perhaps Mary should have considered ways of promoting the business through leaflets or joining a marketing group to help increase customer footfall.
