Pantone blends two shades for 2016 Colour of the Year

Published: 9 December 2015
There is a softer take on colour for 2016 as, for the first time, the blending of two shades, Rose Quartz and Serenity, is chosen as the Pantone Colour of the Year.

The international colour authority says that as consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern-day stresses, welcoming colours that deliver reassurance and security are becoming more prominent.

Together, Rose Quartz and Serenity give a balance between a warmer rose tone and the cooler, tranquil blue, offering a soothing sense of order and peace.

The combination of the two shades also challenges traditional perceptions of colour association, says Pantone.

The pairing of Rose Quartz and Serenity brings calm and relaxation in both soft or hard surface material. Appealing in all finishes, matt, metallic and glossy, the combination also joins easily with other mid-tones including greens and purples, rich browns and all shades of yellow and pink. Silver or hot, bright colours can be added for more splash and sparkle.
